Custom CNC Machined Huge Steel Hub and Sprocket

Custom CNC Machined Steel Hub and Sprocket Assembly for a Giant Bucket Wheel Loader

Denver Machine Shop took on the challenge of machining a steel hub and sprocket assembly for an OEM client servicing their customer with spare parts for a reclaiming machine that unloads barges in the Middle East. This assembly drives the chain for the continuous reclaiming mining application. 1045 Steel was milled on our CNC horizontal mill, and then turned to the precise dimensions on our vertical turret lathe which features a 60″ swing. Tight tolerance of ±0.0005″ was maintained throughout following the client’s engineering CAD drawings for all components of the assembly. Flame hardening was applied to the chain joints for improved wear resistance and strength. The unit was de-burred and assembled, painted per the clients 3 coat epoxy specification, and ultimately delivered overseas with the client’s shipping papers, to the end user, as specified. The turnaround time for this custom machining work was 4 weeks.

This sprocket assembly, shown adjacent, was 4 Ft. in diameter, and weighed 400 lbs. Steps to ensure precision and quality were taken during and after fabrication including dimensional inspections, functionality testing, and hardness testing. Denver Machine is proud to offer our expert fabrication services, for projects of any size, to customers across the country and internationally. With over 100 years of experience and a full service machine shop, we are able to assist customers with all phases of a project from conception to manufacturing.
